CaringBridge: Logan's Chocolate Tank...and now Bo

Well, things are getting better...and worse...

When I got home from work last night Tank had eaten a little dog food from his dish. Only the soft stuff not the hard stuff. And Brian said that he got him to eat a little soft chicken dog food as well. But then last night when we went to give him his antibiotics Tank had thrown up every thing he had eaten. Brian said it was his fault because he had let Tank eat some grass earlier that day and he said grass sometimes makes dogs throw up. Tank's still drinking on his own and still running around in good spirits, but I really wish he would eat something on his own.

That's the good news...if you'd even call that good news...

The bad news is now Bo's throwing up and having diarrhea. It's the same foamy bile that Tank was throwing up last Friday. It hasn't been hot out, so it's not heat stroke, but we have no idea what it could be. Brian called the vet again and they suggested discontinuing the bag of dog food we're giving them and get new dog dishes and clean their kennel's with bleach to get rid of anything that could be poisoning them. I don't think it's their dog food though, we started this new bag on Friday morning and Tank never ate any of it. The vet said it also could be algae from the ponds in our woods, but I don't think the dogs have been down there much in the last two weeks. They stuck pretty close to home for me while Brian was gone.

We just don't know what to do. Brian's going to call the dog food company to see if they've had any other reports of this happening. He's also going to call our normal vet and see if we should bring all the dogs in for blood work and an exam. They're due for their yearly vaccinations in July, so it's not really that early to just have them checked out. It's just so frustrating because they can't tell us what's wrong and it's so hard to watch them every second of every day...

Oh and to top it all off, on the way home from daycare yesterday Logie threw up all over his car seat. He wasn't running a fever or anything and didn't act sick at all. He was running around like normal playing and laughing and happy. Carey my sister-in-law called that night saying that the girls have Roseola virus.

(Roseola is a common viral infection of early childhood, mostly infecting children between the ages of 6 and 24 months. There is no specific treatment for roseola and most kids recover without problems. Fever reducers, such as acetaminopen or ibuprofen, are helpful while your child has a fever.)

One of the symptoms of Roseola is vomiting. She took the girls in and the doctors said there's nothing they can give them for it and to just wait it out. Logie hasn't had a fever and like I said is completely fine today. So that's good. Now if only we could figure out what's going on with the dogs....

CaringBridge: Logan's Chocolate Tank

We had a bit of a scare this weekend. First of all I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Sherri, Keri and Kim for taking care of Tank for us! We really appreciate it and are lucky that you were there this weekend!! So THANK YOU!

Friday morning I was getting ready to leave to make the trek to Milwaukee to pick up Brian and hang out with the Sherman's for the weekend and I noticed that Tank was acting kind of weird. So when I talked to Brian on the phone I mentioned that he didn't eat his food and was drooling a lot and it was like foamy. He said that Bo used to do that when he got overheated. So I gave Tank some water and put him in his kennel with the shade net and left for Milwaukee. Well Sherri called that night and said that Tank was acting very lethargic and wouldn't get up and wouldn't eat or drink anything. She said he was in his kennel and then when they went out to check on him he was gone. They couldn't find him any where, but finally found him under the porch in the front of the house. They had to dump water on him in order to get him out, cause he just wouldn't move. Luckily Keri (who's a vet tech) was there and took his temperature right away and checked him out. She said she thought he had heat stroke and a huge hot spot on his neck from his collar, which looked really infected. So Brian asked if they'd clean up his neck and try to get him to drink something. Well Keri called back about a hour later and said that he's getting really bad and she thought we should take him into the Emergency Room. She just happened to be on call that weekend, so we had her take him to her clinic since she could go in with him and inform the Vet of everything. The vet also thought he had heat stroke and put him on IV fluids and gave him some antibiotics for his hot spot infection.

Saturday afternoon, we got a call saying that Tank didn't really look any better and wasn't really responding to the antibiotics and they wanted to do x-rays to see if maybe he ate something which was blocking his intestines or something. Having to decided what to do to care for a pet is a very hard decision. We love Tank and don't want him to be sick or hurt, but our vet bill was already creeping up on $600. How can you put a price on your pet, yet at the same time not completely break the bank? We decided not to do the x-rays on Saturday. Brian talked to the vet who said that Tank would probably be ok, but they wanted to keep him one more night for observation and to give him a couple more things of IV fluids. So we decided that we'd go to the Brewers game with the Sherman's and leave right after to make the 5 hour trip home, so that Brian could be there in the morning to go get Tank. The drive wasn't bad and I think Brian was just so excited to finally be going home after two weeks away that he didn't even blink the entire trip home. Obviously he would have liked to have been driving home under better circumstances and was very worried about Tank.

Sunday Brian picked up Tank and brought him home. His hot spot looks a ton better and he was walking at least. We couldn't get him to eat or drink anything on his own, so Brian was helping him. We got a little soft dog food down, and he never threw it up so that's a good sign. I think Tank really missed Brian too. Every time Brian would walk into the house Tank would wag his tail and lift his head. Then we took him outside Sunday afternoon and he was chasing after the ball and playing with Ruger and Bo. We finally got him to drink on his own Sunday night, but he still wouldn't eat anything. We've got him on some new antibiotics which I think are working better. I think he's going to be ok, the main thing is to get him to eat something, which I'm hoping he'll do today. Brian's home today with him so we'll see how he does. I'll keep you posted.

Other than that this weekend was fun. It's always a great time hanging out with the Sherman's and Layla Bean is so cute! Her and Logan have a great time together. Here are a few pictures from the Brewer's game.

Miller Park has a Bernie's Playhouse, which is an area that the little kids can go and play in. The guys took the kids into play around a little bit and Jake climbed into the tubes with the kids. It was so funny, he was sweating so bad! This picture is of Jake trying to get Layla to go down the slide. She didn't really like it and neither did Logan, which I can't blame them because you can't see the bottom, so for kids that young it's like sliding into a black hole...very scary. The blur at the bottom of the pictures is Logan trying to crawl away before he has to get shoved down the scary slide...

And finally here's a video of Logan our little monkey! At Miller Park they also have a ramp for wheel chairs and vendors, etc. The kids thought it was awesome to run down. Brian picked Logan up and hung him from the metal poles in the ceiling. Logan thought it was the coolest thing! He really is a little monkey!

Splish Splash

Ok, I finally got this video to upload...

I got Logan this little pool this weekend so he could splash around in the water. He loves to splash around in the dog dish water, so I figured he'd like the pool even more....wrong. The water (when freshly added from the hose) is way way too cold for him. Well at least it was on Saturday. Last night with it being 94 degrees outside he didn't seem to mind the frigid water. See for yourself...

Meyer Ranch Garden

I have to post these pictures for Brian. I'm literally in shock at how much our garden has grown in the last week and a half. It's truly amazing what a little rain and some hot weather can do for your garden.

I am not ashamed to admit though that until last night I had a bit of weed miss identification syndrome...and no I'm not talking about marijuana. I was thinking the entire time, "Wow, our peas are really growing well and very bushy." Well last night Kim enlightened me by saying very casually, "The peas look good other then all the weeds in them."

Tee: "WHAT?!?! There are no weeds in the peas."

Kim: "Ah yeah hon, these are all weeds...this is the pea plant."

Tee: "CRAP!"

So after about 2.5 hours I've officially weeded the garden...and this time I actually got most of the weeds. Looking back now, it's pretty easy to tell what's a weed and what's a pea, but I still have trouble with some of the other plants. I'm sure I'll get better the longer I garden and I know Brian's probably shaking his head right now going, "I can't believe you don't know what weeds look like yet." But like I said, I'll get there...

This picture is of the clouds parting and the light shining down upon me as Kim informs me the peas are all filled with weeds...

A couple of me weeding the garden.

Here's a couple pictures of our potato plants and my little potato bug. The plants are taller then him!

And finally here's a picture of the pasture. Brian seeded it before he left for his training. It's greening up very nicely Babe.

Today I also had my 28 week prenatal appointment and my gestational diabetes test. Good news, no gestational diabetes, but I HATE taking that test. Fasting for 4 - 8 hours and then drinking that awful orange crap sucks. But it's over and things are great. Oscar's heart tones where between 143 - 149 this a.m. so that's great. This appointment marked my last appointment at Osceola Medical Center. OMC doesn't do VBAC (Vaginal Births After Cesarean) so I'm now transferring to Stillwater Medical Center. I haven't made the appointment at SMC yet, so let's hope that Oscar doesn't decide to come before I do cause then I'm not sure where we would go. Although if he comes now I'd probably have to do a C-section again so we'd probably end up at OMC. Anyways, here's a shot of Oscar...

Rube

Oh my gosh I can't believe I almost forgot...Brian sent this to Logie and I on Friday....Makes me laugh so hard every time I watch it! I love you so much Babe! And I hope Logan learns how to dance just like you! I don't know Kyle either, but he's got some sweet moves too!

I guess I should ask....is this stuff copy righted? Do I need your permission before I post it? :-)

Happy Father's Day!

I know we wished you a Happy Father's Day about 6 times yesterday Babe, but we miss you like crazy and wish we could have been there to spend father's day with you! Only 4 more days!!

Couple pics Logan and I took yesterday to send to Daddy.

I miss my daddy!!!

Mom, when's daddy coming home?

4 more days? That's way to long!!

As for the weekend, it was a blur and a blast! We ended up getting three day passes to Country Splash (quick shout out to our supplier! Thanks!) So Friday after work we headed back to the Splash again. I will say that Country Splash has nothin' on Country Fest. Fest is so much better then Splash, it's hard to even make the comparison, but you can't beat free tickets and the concerts were good. Below are a bunch of pictures from this weekend. Darius Rucker was fantastic! Very good live and of course Rascal Flatts rocked the stage!

I also wanted to thank Heather, aka Cheddar, for watching Logan all weekend. He was a handful at times I know, but I really appreciate it and I know he loves hanging out with you.

The girls...and Oscar.

Darius Rucker

Signing the "Support our Troops" board for Hitchell.

Lady Antebellum (They were great as well!)

Rascal Flatts

My Mom and Dad made it out to the Splash as well.

Nice Flare Jodies!

Can you believe it? Daniel actually took a nice picture! This one's going in the scrapbook for sure!

Just some other shots of Logie Bear. Sherri had a half day of work last Tuesday, so her and Logan hung out in the morning. She jelled his hair just for fun. I think he's just so adorable...but I'm probably a little biased. :-)

So overall a good weekend, but very tiring...even for little Logie. I gave him his bottle at 9 last night and he laid down on his blankets to drink it...soon this is what I found...tired little bear....

Let the time fly....

But only for two weeks! Seriously this week has flown by. Brian left for MSOE on Sunday and it's been go go go ever since. Of course it's been a fun go go go...but still tiring.

Since Brian's gone for two weeks Kim and Sherri have moved in. It's been a lot of fun just hanging out with the girls and Logie, plus it helps to have a couple extra sets of hands to help with the little monster. Tuesday night we all went to the Twins game (they won 8 - 2) and then last night I got tickets to the Twins game from work, so a bunch of co-workers and I went to the Twins game. Then this weekend is CountrySplash. It's not official if we're going for all three days yet or if we're just going tonight. We'll have to see if the free tickets come through.

As for Brian's training things are going well so far. I talked to him after a couple days of training and he said that the software is pretty cool, but he was hoping for a little more content in the curriculum they're teaching. Plus he's already ahead with the homework and stuff. Brian's so adept at things like this and learns so fast. The people around him have already identified him as someone that "gets it" and ask him tons of questions. I'm so proud of you babe! The hotel he's staying in is nice and the food is ok...other then the night they had egg rolls and chow mein. For those of you that don't know Brian hates Chinese food, especially rice. So he had to scrounge up a different dinner that night. This weekend Brian's heading to Hartford to hang out with the Sherman's I think him and Jake are heading up north to hand out in the woods or something. Not exactly sure. Then another week of training. Although he is going to the Twins Brewers game on Tuesday night. So he's sneaking in some "vacation" activities while he's away.

Things on the Ranch are going well. I haven't killed any of the pheasants yet and the garden/flowers are still alive. Actually with the rain we've had they look really good! But of course Uncle Dan has come over a couple times this week to check in on us....make sure I haven't started anything on fire or lifted anything I'm not suppose to. So that's been nice.

I got to chat with my brother Mitchell for a little bit yesterday morning. We were IMing over Skype...which I guess I could do a Tech Time with Tee about Skype, although it's been around for awhile. It's software that lets you call other computers and you can talk to people or video with people for free. You can also do skype to landlines, which is what Mitchell has. I think he pays like $12 a month and can skpye to any phone number. It works very well for him overseas because then he doesn't have to mess with calling cards or anything, he just needs an internet connection. Anyways...he's doing well. Things are pretty mellow and at times boring, but he's getting along. He received a couple packages so far and said that getting mail is the highlight of his day/week. Which of course made me feel guilty since I hadn't sent him anything yet...so I told him I'd send him something that he currently doesn't have....Sand. :-) He laughed which is what I was going for anyways. So todo #48 for this weekend...send Mitchell a care package.

Yes I'm rambling...I'm tired and have so much to do at work that I don't know where to start...so it's easier to just keep typing and not think about all the other things I have to do...

OK...I really should get started....what day is it again? Right, Thursday, OK, Ready....Set...Work!

Tech Time with Tee

Ok, I know I just posted yesterday, but I'm so excited about this new site/company that I just had to share it with you.

So a little background on it...plus I want to brag... :-)

For the last 6 months I've been organizing an event at 3M called Nerdstock. It's an annual event that the Software and Systems Tech Forum chapter which I'm currently a co-chair of puts on. The keynote speaker we lined up for this years Nerdstock event was Dr. Werner Vogels, which might not mean much to anyone, but he's the VP and Chief Technology Office of Amazon.com. Very big deal in the computer world. He was named CTO of the year in 2008 by Information Week. So I spent last Thursday and Friday with Dr. Vogels and the head of sales for Amazon's AWS products. It was so exciting and interesting to talk to them and learn from them. In Dr. Vogels keynote address he identified a bunch of companies that are running their sites on Amazon Web Services and the first one he pointed out is Animoto. (http://animoto.com/) This company is so cool. It was started by a bunch of college guys who figured out that they could identify the rhythm in music and automatically create videos from uploaded pictures. Now that might not sound very impressive, but wait until you try it. WARNING WARNING This is very addictive!!

I went to their site just to check it out and play around with it (you can create 30 sec videos for free) and I was so impressed with it! The video I created is below. You can upload your own pictures as well as your own music, enter text where you want it and Animoto will do the transitions for you and put together the video. It's so cool! If you want to subscribe to the site it's $30/year and you can create full length videos and download them. It's $5 extra to create a DVD of your video. Or if you want it's $3/video if you want to just try a full length one.

I've been thinking of creating a video for Logan of the first year of his life and this just might push me over the edge. I can just upload the pictures, pick my music and see what happens...for $3...seems like a no brainer.

Huh and I guess they have a referral program so if you do sign up use my Referral code: vihtpcbw

Was playing around with the site a little more and here's the same video just remixed.

And here's the same pictures just moved around and I started the song in a different place. But Animoto never renders the video the same so you always get something new.

Favorite Meal

Last night BMeyer was out running errands so it was just me and Logie for dinner. I wasn't really in the mood to cook, so I just whipped up some Mac & Cheese since I know it's one of Logan's favorite meals. But Wow, I didn't realize how much he really liked it nor did I realize just how much he had mastered the use of the spoon. He's at the point now where he always wants a utensil when we eat and is pretty good at the fork, but I was floored last night at how good he was with the spoon. Here's a little video of my big eater.

And yes if your wondering Logan, (we'll throw in Oscar for good measure) and I ate the whole box of Mac & Cheese ourselves. I'd say he ate at least a 1/4 of the box. The other thing I noticed watching him eat his Mac & Cheese last night is he's very resourceful...if he couldn't figure out how to pick up the rogue Mac & Cheese that fell on the table he'd just throw his face down and pick it up with his mouth...he learned to eat from watching his father. :-)

Then here's a quick video of Logan playing with Brian's hat. Logan loves hats. He'll play with his putting it on his head and taking it off again. He loves to pull it down so that he can barely see out of it and walk around the house. It's so funny, cause I'll go over and try to shift it up a little so he'll be able to see out from under it without having to look straight up and he'll get mad and pull it right back down. He's definitely all boy! And I wouldn't have it any other way!

Other news at the ranch...

Brian's done with school for the summer, but definitely not done with work. We've officially got Meyer Ranch & Property Maintenance off the ground. Brian had asked me to put together a website for the business so that he could send it out to a bunch of the teachers, as well as have something for potential clients to view some of his work. So I found http://officelive.com where you can develop a website and register a domain name for free for a year. It's a super easy site if you want to put together a website quickly. They have tons of templates and pre-made modules for you to use. Here's what I've done for the http://meyerranchpm.com (PM standing for Property Maintenance). Not the worlds best or most flashy website, but it gets the point across and that's all Brian really wanted. We're in the process of adding more photos of his previous work. As the business grows (which I'm sure it will) I'll update the site.

The other site which has just recently gotten off the ground is http://www.constructionlinks4u.com. Ben Brown has put together a site for his Tree Services and Stamped Concrete work. The site is really nice and I think the plan is to incorporate some of the work Brian does as well as others into the site. The economy is tough, and when times get tough, the tough get going! This is definitely the motto for Brian and his friends.

Brian did send the site to the teachers at school and already has 7 or 8 jobs lined up for this summer. He's so excited. I think he's really looking forward to getting out and working with his hands and doing some outside manual labor jobs again. So if you're looking for someone to give you advice on that landscaping/outdoors/home improvement project don't hesitate to ask. As Brian said, no job's too small and if he can't do it he'll find someone as quality as him that can. (OK I'm done with the advertising for my husband's business....I'm just so proud of him! And I promise you won't be disappointed with his work...have you seen the ranch?!?! Ok now I'm really done... :-) )

But before he can get really into Meyer Ranch and Property Maintenance he's going to the Milwaukee School of Engineering for two weeks. He's taking a class for Project Lead the Way that's two weeks long. He's flying down to Milwaukee on Sunday the 14th, then Logie and I are driving down on Friday the 26th of June to pick him up and spend the weekend with Jake, April and Layla. It will be a long two weeks and unfortunately he'll be away for fathers day, but the training will be good and we'll have fun the weekend we spend with the Sherman's.

The other news is Meyer Ranch is officially a Ranch now. We've got animals on the ranch. Not big smelly animals just 20 little cute pheasants. Brian and his brothers bought 30 pheasants a couple weeks ago (yes unfortunately 10 have died) to raise and then release. I believe the plan right now is to raise them for 8 - 10 weeks and then let them go. This will, of course, help the pheasant population when it comes time for hunting, but they're also planning on using the birds to train the dogs.

Little Monkey

Some more cute videos of Logan.

Our little Monkey climbing on the back of the couch. Don't worry we store blankets back there, so if he did fall, he wouldn't get hurt...much...probably...

Logan loves his John Deere....as you can tell by the video below...he never wants to get off.

Big Boy!

I took this picture of Logan on Friday night....doesn't he look so big!!! He looks like he's 3 or something!

Here are a couple short videos. Logan's favorite past time lately is to sit in his booster seat or his spare car seat and play with the buckles. He'll sit there for 45 mins and just play with them. And now when he gets into his car seat he grabs the buckles right away and wants to put them together himself. He's so independent! He doesn't like his high chair anymore, he eats way better in his booster seat on a chair, just like a big boy. Whatever works to get him to eat is fine with me.

This one is of Logan dancing. It's super short, he wouldn't dance once the camera came out. I'll try to get a longer one later, he's so funny when he dances.
