CaringBridge: Logan's Chocolate Tank...and now Bo

Well, things are getting better...and worse...

When I got home from work last night Tank had eaten a little dog food from his dish. Only the soft stuff not the hard stuff. And Brian said that he got him to eat a little soft chicken dog food as well. But then last night when we went to give him his antibiotics Tank had thrown up every thing he had eaten. Brian said it was his fault because he had let Tank eat some grass earlier that day and he said grass sometimes makes dogs throw up. Tank's still drinking on his own and still running around in good spirits, but I really wish he would eat something on his own.

That's the good news...if you'd even call that good news...

The bad news is now Bo's throwing up and having diarrhea. It's the same foamy bile that Tank was throwing up last Friday. It hasn't been hot out, so it's not heat stroke, but we have no idea what it could be. Brian called the vet again and they suggested discontinuing the bag of dog food we're giving them and get new dog dishes and clean their kennel's with bleach to get rid of anything that could be poisoning them. I don't think it's their dog food though, we started this new bag on Friday morning and Tank never ate any of it. The vet said it also could be algae from the ponds in our woods, but I don't think the dogs have been down there much in the last two weeks. They stuck pretty close to home for me while Brian was gone.

We just don't know what to do. Brian's going to call the dog food company to see if they've had any other reports of this happening. He's also going to call our normal vet and see if we should bring all the dogs in for blood work and an exam. They're due for their yearly vaccinations in July, so it's not really that early to just have them checked out. It's just so frustrating because they can't tell us what's wrong and it's so hard to watch them every second of every day...

Oh and to top it all off, on the way home from daycare yesterday Logie threw up all over his car seat. He wasn't running a fever or anything and didn't act sick at all. He was running around like normal playing and laughing and happy. Carey my sister-in-law called that night saying that the girls have Roseola virus.

(Roseola is a common viral infection of early childhood, mostly infecting children between the ages of 6 and 24 months. There is no specific treatment for roseola and most kids recover without problems. Fever reducers, such as acetaminopen or ibuprofen, are helpful while your child has a fever.)

One of the symptoms of Roseola is vomiting. She took the girls in and the doctors said there's nothing they can give them for it and to just wait it out. Logie hasn't had a fever and like I said is completely fine today. So that's good. Now if only we could figure out what's going on with the dogs....

Wow seriously this is so wierd. I just don't understand. Poor dogs. It is hard to watch them every second of the day but like you said they never really went anywhere last week. Darn! Please get better doggies!!
I hope Logan's not getting what the girls have.
Sorry guys hang in there. I am hoping for the best!
