I Was Here

One of my favorite groups right now is Lady Antebellum. The group includes Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood. They have a new song which was featured on a compilation CD for the 2008 Olympic Summer Games and if you've heard an advertisement for the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk in your area lately you'll have heard this song playing in the background. Listening to it moves me to be better, do better.

I know a big part of the message that says "I was here" will be Logan and the other children Brian and I raise, but I also want it to be more than just that. I want people to say that their lives were better because they knew me. That I touched them in some way that no one else could. It doesn't happen with everyone I meet, but I pray I've touched more people in this world than I've hurt, made more people smile than frown, and laugh than cry. Then I think I could say with pride, "I was here".

You will notice me
I'll be leaving my mark, like initials carved in an old oak tree
you wait and see
maybe I'll write like Twain wrote
maybe I'll paint like Van Gough,
cure the common cold
I don't know but I'm ready to start cuz I know in my heart

I wanna do something that matters
say something different
something that sets the whole world on it's ear
I wanna do somethin better, with the time I've been given
and I wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life
and leave nothin less that something that says I was here

I will prove you wrong
if you think I'm all talk, your in for a shock
cuz this dreams too strong, and before too long
maybe i'll compose symphonies
maybe i'll fight for world peace
cuz i know it's my destiny to leave more that a trace of myself in this
place

I wanna do something that matters
say something different
something that sets the whole world on it's ear
I wanna do somethin better, with the time I've been given
and I wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life
and leave nothin less that something that says I was here

And I know that I, I will do more than just pass through this life
I'll leave nothin less that somethin that says I was here, I was here, I
was here, I was here

Wanna do somethin' that matters
somethin' that says I was here
wanna do somethin' that matters
somethin' that says I was here, I was here

Theresa, the only thing you could ever do to make anyone cry is be too far away from them for too long. I honestly and truly believe you, and your amazing husband and son, are a gift to those you bless with your never ending friendships and supportive ways. When I think about the friends we have that we know we could lean on for anything, anytime, I think of the Meyers. Trust me, you have and continue to leave your mark on this world and those around you. And, I have a feeling we'll hear you sing this song very loudly in a microphone in downtown Osceola, WI very soon. :) Love, The Shermans.
